Wedding Quilt COMPLETE from Wedding Dress Blue

Young Son is getting married the end of September. She is a lovely young woman, and we are very pleased for them both. And, of course, the occasion calls for a quilt!

This is based on the CLEO Pattern . I did resize the blocks smaller, and I do love the look. Sort of modern/abstract. Or maybe just busy. Either way, it is done now… It is super scrappy with around 250 different green, brown, gold and cream fabrics.

Don’t you LOVE the gold thread in the quilting. (Thank you, Jennifer!)

We wish them a lifetime wrapped in quilty ...

Kindness Quilt: A gift for a new little blessing from Carried Away Quilting

In 2020 I joined a mystery sew along hosted by Sweet Treasures Quilts called the Kindness Project. The goal was to make a quilt and gift it to someone affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. I finished my quilt top and then tucked it away . . . pondering who to gift it to.  I knew the answer would come to my heart, and it did.

I am taking a little license with my choice, but I think you will understand why.  It goes without saying that 2020 was a difficult, sad and challenging year for so many people. But one miraculous blessing came ...

Vintage Hankies Baby Quilt Pattern – Use Your Grandma’s Hankies from Patchwork Posse

Learn how to turn your wonderful collection of vintage hankies or even your grandma’s hankies into a quilt. If you want it larger than a baby quilt, simple – just sew more blocks.

Each block features four large squares of one hankie. You can even use hankies that have crochet edges, embroidered flowers and different colors.

The backing fabric can show through just a tiny bit – so make sure that’s a beautiful fabric as well.

For a while I was a big vintage hankie and fabric collector. I love, love that kind of stuff! I have more than enough ...

Cute Baby Quilt from The Quilt Yarn

Must be the baby season! Had to quickly finish another baby quilt for a friend of my daughter's. Chose this cute teddy bear panel from Devonstone Collection (design #DV6130) to quickly quilt a clamshell design over it. Then had to hunt around for a suitable backing...as the colours are somewhat washed out I thought that this would be challenging but found something straight away which fitted it perfectly.

Too cute! quilted it with my trusted Aurifil thread 50/2 in a soft yellow colour. Was lucky as I also found a solid in the same colour as the ...

Padlock Quilt COMPLETE from Wedding Dress Blue

A free pattern is worth trying, right? Especially when the fabric is free, too!

I received a bundle of cut 2-1/2″ strips of assorted blue and green fabrics. There were so many I couldn’t see them getting used any time in the near future if I added them to my general stash of strips.

So, it was a try at something new. If I did it again I would make the quilting a darker shade of brown to help tie the front, the quilting, and the backing together better. I don’t love it, but someone will. If ...

SECOND CHANCES: Modern Milly COMPLETE from Wedding Dress Blue

Yep, you guessed it: Started as a handful of scraps in a hand-me-down bag. Maybe someday I’ll get tired of these, but it hasn’t happened yet. It gives a sense of freedom and creative challenge.

That said, some go better than others. I chose to experiment with the quilting on this one. I do believe the red was a good choice, but maybe a different design, something more floral to match the back?

Either way, it is done now. The blocks measure 12″ finished. The entire top is 38″ finished.

Another one for the donation pile. Though it ...

Monkey Scraps COMPLETE from Wedding Dress Blue

The polka dots and animal print showed up in a hand me down bag cut into 5″ x 7-1/2″ rectangles. And there weren’t many of them. Only six each.

I trimmed the rectangles down to 5″ x 7″. And created four HST blocks using bonus triangles from previous projects.

An assortment of brown solids became asymmetrical borders for the scraps and HST, creating 16 9″ blocks. I wanted the quilt to have a “jump around” feeling without being too busy.

Just right for a 36″ baby quilt. So very cute!

Baby Bear Star Blocks from Magpie Quilts

I had a panel with multiple teddy bear picnic blocks and I found some bright prints to make stars around the pieces I cut from that panel.
There wasn't enough of anything in my stash for borders, so I found this bright blue print at the local quilting shop and added borders.
And a Fireside backing for soft cuddle factor. Sent it off to be quilted by my friend Marie at Blueberry Hill Quilts.
On a sunny day, took the quilt outside for a little photoshoot and got photo bombed by the horse behind the fence.

LATE REPORT: Improv Repro Second Chances Quilt COMPLETE from Wedding Dress Blue

This quilt was finished in February. I have no idea why I didn’t report on it. I can’t even find pictures of the process.

The pieces parts came from multiple sources: some irregular improv pieces from a hand-me-down bag, jelly roll strips from a different hand me down bag, miscellaneous half-square triangles (possibly waste triangles), and some solids from my own stash.

You could make the entire quilt using a jelly roll and some background or low volume (for those HST) and some solids.

Finishes at 39″ square.

A First Quilt from Wedding Dress Blue

Friend Julia came for a visit from Louisiana. She wanted to make a baby quilt. Her first quilt.

She had Mardis Gras fabric for the back.

We started pulling possibilities from my color bins. She ironed and I cut.

The FIRST BLOCK.

And, before she flew out, a finished top. (Quick info: 3″ squares. Finishes at 40″ square.)

She plans to connect with the quilting community back home. I assured her that there would be people ready and willing to help. I will share the finish when it happens.

There is another quilt kit cut and ready in her baggage ...

Pink and Gray from Wedding Dress Blue

Two interesting piles came to me in scrap bags: Binding. But not just any binding. A lot of binding. Both were 2-1/2″ wide. The pink was scrappy from a variety of fabrics. The gray was jelly roll strips stitched together.

They languished in my bindings box, constantly overlooked. But, they had potential. Ironed out, I cut 2-1/2″ squares. And pieced 8-patch blocks.

Joined together (and bound with the remaining pink binding) they will keep a baby warm.

I plan to make a larger similar quilt in the future. Great use for a jelly roll. Or a layer cake ...

Gorgeous Baby Quilt Coming Up from The Quilt Yarn

I am working on several projects at once...as always! Finished my gorgeous baby quilt top though. This one is for us, however I will write up the pattern for my Etsy shop in due course. For once I did take good notes while I was making it, so hopefully that won't take too long.

It's absolutely gorgeous fabric! Acquired from a local quilt shop that put together a selection of 'Cottage Grove' fabrics from Art Gallery Fabrics for a Fat Quarter bundle. The quality is outstanding and even after washing the fabric, it felt just superb. I ...

Making Tiny Stars from The Quilt Yarn

I am working on a new quilt pattern...very easy, but includes these tiny 4-1/2in stars. Maybe not one of my brighter ideas but it is for a small baby quilt. Need 20 of them in two different tones. Nothing complicated, just a bit fiddly. Have made 12 so far

Have the most gorgeous fabric to go with this...will be all light greenish with soft pink and apricot tones. Looking forward to finishing these tiny stars and starting on the other blocks.

As I get bored very easily, I am also continuing on my scrap reduction challenge. As ...

Second Chance Quilt: Little Bits from Wedding Dress Blue

In a hand-me-down bag there were these little bits. A 1-1/2″ strip with 6 1-1/2″ squares attached. Twenty of them. Such cute little bits. They wanted to be a quilt.

Adding 6″ stars in matching colors and some sashing fit the bill. I like the way it makes the stars shimmer with movement.

The polka dot binding was an unexpected decision, and the backing is a little odd, too. But they do work, and it all came from stash, so that’s a win.

Second Chance projects can make one dig deep to find a solution. I do ...

Coon Dash Quilt COMPLETE from Wedding Dress Blue

In a scrap bag I got small scraps of this raccoon/bear/tree fabric. Sort of odd colors, but the print was cute.

The solution was Churn Dash blocks with the fabric in the centers. And some sashing and matching binding.

It will be delivered to a co-worker who is expecting her first baby soon. The baby shower was a few weeks ago…but we are all doing the best we can.

Churn Dash blocks are so versatile.

Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Hi and welcome to my very quiet post. The only thing that got done this week was to wash the Small Blue Scrappy Quilt. I put it into the dryer (I don't do that often but the results give such fluffy goodness).

Small Blue Scrappy Quilt

Finished and washed, the small blue scrappy quilt is ready to take to the guild meeting next week.
